Busted! One of the Biggest Cocaine Busts in Tennessee History

Tennessee made a name in big drug busts throughout the past couple of years. Donald Ray Reynolds in 2010 preceded the announcement by law enforcement officials in Middle Tennessee in 2012 of the seizure of 200 pounds of marijuana, $1.3 million in cash and a 22-gun arsenal. And, now, the Brentwood drug bust. Touted as the second largest in our history, with $1.5 million in cocaine discovered at a Brentwood home, the deeds of the Pineda Drug Ring have come to light. Trafficking in our state is nothing to be proud of. The knowledge that drugs are coming from Mexico and being distributed via Nashville is a fact many state residents wished weren’t true.

The good news is that the more we learn about drug trafficking in Tennessee, the more we can do to end it. Criminals often try to remain one step ahead of the good guys, but cracking down on crack is a high priority. Narcotic News is a site that shares information about drugs, including trafficking methods specific to each market and typical forms of concealment. Awareness of the worldwide drug problem and those affected by it, both physically and economically, is a global concern. It is especially helpful to our law enforcers. We are doing our part locally. The State Police link provides information about the various State Police and Highway Patrol websites across the country.

The drug world offers high stakes with steep punishments. Tennessee law permits judges and juries, based on the amount of a controlled substance possessed, to decide whether there was intent to sell or dispense, which determines the severity of the penalty.

If you’ve been charged with a drug crime, it is essential that you hire an experienced east Tennessee criminal defense attorney. Whether the charges are state or federal, Patrick L. Looper, Attorney at Law knows how to fight for your freedom.
